The CLP Power Wind/Wave Tunnel Facility is one of the Central Research
Facilities at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
WWTF is one of the world class Central Research Facilities of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, providing specialist professional Wind Engineering expertise and services. The state-of-the-art facility comprises two boundary layer wind tunnel test sections, a water tank, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) capabilities and a custom-built, two-degree-of-freedom tall building motion simulator. The Facility is equipped to provide aerodynamic, civil/structural engineering, environmental fluid mechanics and environmental engineering applications in teaching, research and expert consulting services. We have combined expertise and experience in full-scale measurements of wind-induced effects and structural dynamics, wind/wave tunnel and computational facilities, and occupant comfort/motion simulator studies.
The Facility has been operational since being opened by the Hon.
Tung Chee Hwa, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR and Chancellor
of HKUST, and the Hon. Michael D. Kadoorie, Chairman of CLP Holdings
on 9th June, 2000.
In addition to funding from the University, construction of the Wind/Wave Tunnel Facility was also funded by a generous donation
of $10 million by the CLP Power Company.
